"How old are you?"in Thai language we say (kun) aa-yú tâo-rài
aa-yú (อายุ) = age
tâo-rài (เท่าไร) = How much?
Don't forget to say kŏr-tôot
(ขอโทษ) before asking because you are going to ask
someone a personal question.
And how to answer.
A: kŏr-tôot kâ kun aa-yú tâo-rài ká? [Excuse me. How old are you?]
B:
yêe-sìp-èt kráp [I am 21 years old.]
The answer is
"yêe-sìp-èt" don't need to say yêe-sìp-èt bpee
because it's too formal.
[bpee (ปี)= year]
But for children [1-12 years old] we always use kwùap
A: lûuk-săao kun aa-yú tâo-rài ? [How old is your daughter?]
B: sìp kwùap kâ [She is 10 years old.]
Sometimes we use láeo (แล้ว) which means "already" at the end of question.
A: lûuk-chaai kun aa-yú tâo-rài láeo? [How old is your son?]
láeo(แล้ว) = already
B: hâa kwûap láeo [He is 5 years old .]
And now I really want to know ...
kun aa-yú tâo-rài láeo ká?
